Henry: I found the picture online. I put your face over the fireman’s. It looked more… heroic.
Emma: I definitely look… brawny.
Come on, Henry, if you’re going to do a shitty Photoshop, you could at least finish the job. Do I have to do everything?
There, that’s better.

Swan Queen Challenge | Day 12 - Favourite scene: Episode 8, “Desperate Souls”.

30 Days of Swan Queen Challenge - Day 1, Who do you love more: Emma or Regina?
I feel like this deserves an explanation. And before we get started, no this is not a scene from ‘She’s Out of My League 2: Now with Lesbians!’, even though it’s written that way…Jane Espenson, you devious bastard. Now, my love for Regina is deep, abiding and pretty much unshakeable. My love for Emma has not always been as steadfast or loudly proclaimed but when it comes it comes hard, fast and reaches into my chest and pulls on those heartstrings, like in this scene and episode…so, in this instance, if I absolutely must choose, I choose Emma.
For what it’s worth, I think all of JE’s episodes elevate Emma’s character just a little more than the rest, but ‘Desperate Souls’ especially does. She *is* the hero in this episode; she saves the day AND the girl, hehe, I just wish this awesomeness was more consistently written in S1 and yes, I do think if she was a male character, it would have been. I know somebody mentioned this in a fanfic I read, but this episode really shows the contrast of Rumple’s and Regina’s quests for control and power vs. Emma’s for, well, justice. Sure, she gets played *again*, but I think she definitely wins more than just the election. For one brief, glorious moment at Granny’s she wins maybe a smidge of Regina’s acceptance and validation. Because if Swan Queen is going to happen, (and I won’t listen that it won’t or can’t or isn’t in some form, lalala), then Regina’s acceptance of Emma’s way (in this episode, at least) vs. Rumple/Cora’s way is a big step towards their relationship potential improving. And as the season finale showed, when they team up magical things happen:D Of course, in this episode, the acceptance is not in profuse thank-you’s for saving her life or anything because that’s so not them. An ‘enjoy that’ and a reward of five minutes of uninterrupted eye contact? SO THEM.
